Raul. Postat Noiembrie 6, 2003 Share Postat Noiembrie 6, 2003 Statistically, there can be no arguments over the greatest motorcycle racer of all time. Giacomo Agostini won 68 races and seven World Championships with MV Augusta in the 500cc class during the late 1960s and early 70s before switching to Yamaha for one final triumph in 1975 â a record unmatched by any other rider. Despite Agostiniâs achievements, however, personal opinion rages over who is the âAll-Time Greatestâ â a hypothetical title many people believe Valentino Rossi could assume should he retain his World Championship crown next season after his defection from Honda and the all-conquering RC211V. Agostini, who test rode Rossiâs V5 for three laps at Catalunya on Tuesday, revealed his admiration for his young compatriotâs courage, but insisted it was impossible to compare him against past heroes. âI think Rossiâs decision shows he is a very courageous rider, and he is certainly one of the best,â smiled Agostini with his familiar glow of warmth and sincerity. âBut I remember Mike Hailwood winning races on a 125, a 250, a 350, a 500⌠on a Norton, an MV Augusta, a Honda â sometimes virtually all on the same day! I donât know - it is impossible to say who is the best ever. âPeople say that if Valentino wins on the Yamaha he will be the best â but why? Young people watch Valentino ride now and he gives them great emotion â an emotion that I can never give to them because they werenât born when I was racing. Not only myself â they never saw Mike Hailwood, Kenny Roberts, Freddie SpencerâŚToday, Valentino is the man everybody is looking at and he is very good, for sure. If he doesnât win on the Yamaha, he will still be very good, but at the same time if he does win it will not make him the best everâ. Agostini then brought the Catalunya pit-lane to a deafening standstill as he fired up the RC211V in the same style he used to light up the MV Augusta, grabbing handfuls of lunging clutch and screaming throttle before splitting the horizon in a crescendo of noise. One day earlier, neighbours of the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia almost had their windows shattered as he took a few laps on the Ducati Desmosedici. âCompared to my bike, sitting on the Ducati was like sitting on a bomb!â laughed Agostini, now aged 61. âIn any case, I was going far too slow to understand the bikes. To understand a motorcycle you have to know everything about it and then ride it at 100%. I have only had three laps with these machines, which wasnât even enough time to find my braking markers. Even the gear shifter is on the opposite side to my old MV, so I would need twenty laps at least to get any sort of feeling and be able to compare the bikes. Anyway, it was a nice opportunity and good funâ. Citează Link spre comentariu Distribuie pe alte site-uri
Pavel Postat Noiembrie 7, 2003 Share Postat Noiembrie 7, 2003 super, asta da batranel! nikki lauda: Moto GP is better than F1 at the moment! interesting read, he does have a point!! ''Niki Lauda was in Valencia at the weekend to witness his second live MotoGP race of the season, having also been at the Sachsenring in July. One of over 120,000 fans packed into the circuit to witness Valentino Rossiâs latest triumph, the former F1 World Champion was left in no doubts as to the distinction of the series and of its current star performer. âMotoGP is at the moment leading Formula 1 as a spectacle because itâs much betterâ said Lauda. âYou can see more racing⌠itâs just better â itâs incredible. In a way the two sports are not different from the point of view that you always have to go to the limit and some guys can do that better than the others.â â Rossi is outstanding at it â like Schumacher in that respect â but itâs very close up at the front. Sete, for example, I appreciate, Max Biaggi⌠there is a good group of famous people fighting each other and I think itâs the best you could have. You see the spectators here, the interest is huge so you couldnât hope for more.â âI think Rossi is incredible. It is going to be interesting to see now where he changes to because he is starting all over again, but I understand why he is doing it. It is a new motivation for him.â Lauda added that he enjoyed watching every round of the series in the comfort of his own home, but admitted that there is nothing quite like being at trackside on race day. âI really like watching the braking â they way they slide. On television it is covered really well, I must say. You can see they way they are fighting with the machine - thatâs what makes it so interesting. But the most incredible thing is being here and listening to the sound. They donât sound like motorcycles â they sound like hell machines! You can see the power when they accelerate â they can barely keep the front wheel on the ground. I also enjoy watching the smaller classes â 125 and 250. From very aspect itâs just a great spectacle to watch ENJOY SHANE Citează Link spre comentariu Distribuie pe alte site-uri
