1st - Valentino Rossi Average score out of ten: 9.3 Team: Movistar Yamaha Bike: YZR-M1 (Factory) Wins: 2 Podiums: 13 Poles: 1 Fastest Laps: 1 Championship points: 295 Championship position: 2nd out of 27 During his Ducati years, Valentino Rossi was voted just 10th and 11th in the Crash.net MotoGP Star of the Year polls. Despite a race-winning return to Yamaha, the Italian again failed to impress you last year - being voted sixth, behind even CRT rider Aleix Espargaro. But the Italian's 2014 resurgence produced his best on-track results since a seventh MotoGP title in 2009 - and Rossi has made a similar revival in your Star of the Year vote, topping the list for the first time since that same season. Undoubtedly the most popular rider on the MotoGP grid, that hadn't helped Rossi during the last three years of the poll vote. Rossi's previous poll victories (2008 and 2009) both came after winning the world championship, which The Doctor didn't even come close to doing in 2014, instead finishing a distant runner-up to Marc Marquez. So what did you see in Rossi this year that was missing in the recent past? One factor was surely the magnitude of his improvement relative to last season. While Marquez was only expected to get better this year, Rossi - 14 years his senior - began the year unsure if he would even sign another MotoGP contract, after being comprehensively beaten for much of 2013. Spurred on by a shock change of crew chief, the oldest rider on the grid (after Colin Edwards's mid-season retirement) more than doubled his podium tally relative to last year and racked up 58 more points. To put that into perspective, Marquez scored 28 points more than last year on the way to his title defence. Jorge Lorenzo lost 67 points relative to last year and Dani Pedrosa minus 54 points. Although Rossi only scored two wins, he was runner-up on six further occasions. Rossi's main weakness this season was in qualifying, with just three front row starts (including a first pole since 2010), but the Saturday struggles often made his race results more praiseworthy. In pure riding terms, the record-breaking Marquez was the undisputed best. But this poll was about more than results and it seems that for many fans Rossi's performance was the surprise of the season. Indeed, the level of surprise (good or bad) seems to have been a major factor throughout your Star of the Year voting. While Marquez was expected to improve further after his brilliant rookie MotoGP title and Rossi surprised after three subdued seasons, much better was expected from the likes of Lorenzo and Pedrosa - leaving them much lower in the poll than their championship positions. By contrast, the likes of Andrea Dovizioso, Aleix Espargaro and Andrea Iannone surpassed predictions and were duly voted higher. Rossi's poll win marks only the second time that the reigning world champion has been beaten in the MotoGP Star of the Year vote, the other occasion being Pedrosa over Lorenzo in 2012. “It is incredible," Marquez said of Rossi's 2014 'comeback'. "35 years old is one thing, but for me the most important is that after two not so good years at Ducati, then come back in Yamaha and struggle a little bit last season, this year he has come back [to the front]. "It shows how strong he is as a rider, because after three years without good results it's difficult to come back. He came back really strong and for example in Malaysia, with 35 degree heat, he was pushing me until the last three laps. I respect him a lot. I always say I would like to be like him in the future but it will be really difficult!" “I think the season from Valentino has a lot of unbelievable merits,” added Rossi's team-mate Jorge Lorenzo. “After, as Marc said, three years not so good. Especially the two years at Ducati. Coming back so strong, improving his riding, working even more physically and also staying in the pit box and working a lot of hours to try to improve the setting on the bike". http://m.crash.net/motogp/news/212739/1/motogp-star-of-the-year-vote-1st.html

» Post actualizat in 02 Dec 2014 10:19

Jeremy e ferm Speaking to MCN, Burgess said: “I have drawn a line in the sand and for me to come back into MotoGP as the crew chief of a young rider would be a commitment of a minimum of five years. I’ll be 62 next year and it is not what I want to do and I don’t think it would be in the best interests of a team. Honestly speaking, with Valentino signing a two-year extension, it would have seen me probably checkout. I just don’t like the pressure of it having worked my entire life for riders who are expected to win a championship. I can sit at home now and I don’t want to be there on the start line making the call that could change the championship for the worst for that rider » Post actualizat in 26 Nov 2014 19:05 As a rookie to MotoGP™ next season, the team’s new recruit Jack Miller is entitled to extra test days in order to smoothen the transition to the premier class, and was joined out on the 5.543-kilometre (3.444-mile) circuit by various test riders. Temperatures were cooler than during the scorching October race at the track, peaking at around 32°C, but with only four riders testing the surface took a while to clean up. The Australian, who joins the motorcycling elite after finishing as the championship runner-up in Moto3™, was able to put in 39 laps of the track on his new Honda RC213V-RS until light rain at 4pm brought a halt to any further progress. Testing continues at Sepang for Miller and the CWM LCR Honda Team on Thursday and Friday, when the 19 year-old will hope for better conditions to carry on with his adaptation to the new bike. Jack Miller #43 (2’04.92, 39 laps): "Today we got a chance to learn another track on the new bike and it is a completely different style here compared to Valencia. It was actually quite a difficult day because the bike was slipping and spinning up quite a lot, with there not being many bikes out on-track. By the end of the day, though, I started to really enjoy myself. I’m learning more and more about how to adapt my style to the CWM LCR Honda and how to set it up a bit better. The bike is still incredible, I’m really happy with the power it has and so to ride it here in Malaysia and to be able to use its full potential is great. Tomorrow we will continue working on my riding style and we’ll see where I get to in the end."

The brilliant Italian finished his 15th premier class season as the runner-up in the MotoGP™ World Championship and this year also saw him extend his contract with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP for two more years – meaning he will ride with the factory team until at least the end of 2016. In addition to his nine World titles Rossi has now amassed 196 podiums and 108 victories and he unsurprisingly reflects positively on another successful year in 2014… Q: The season is over. Can you evaluate your performance? VR: “I am very happy about my performance this season. The balance was very positive. For me this was the key season to decide my future. Last year I wasn’t very happy and I had to decide whether to continue or not. My target was to get to the front, fight with the top three riders and aim to get onto the podium every race. Last year this wasn’t always possible. I am happy that I was able to make it happen this year. I’ve made some big changes at the beginning of the season, but these have worked and I'm happy for that. Throughout this season I’ve always been strong in the race. I had good races and good battles.” Q: What do you think about this year’s M1? At the beginning of the championship you suffered some lack of performances, but in the second part of the season the M1 won races with both you and Jorge (Lorenzo). VR: "Our M1 has improved a lot during the season, especially thanks to the good job done by both crews. Silvano, Ramon and all the engineers and technicians have worked very well. All together we were able to improve the bike to make it competitive and winning. It's a shame we weren’t able to improve the performance earlier on because most of the gap with Marc (Marquez) was created at the beginning of the season and then it became difficult to recover. If only we could start the season again now, things would go differently, but that's okay. What’s more important is that the bike has improved a lot and that it’s competitive now.” Q: The results have been fantastic this season, the numbers speak for themselves. As a rider but also as a man, what does it mean to be back at such a high level? VR: “It is a great satisfaction as both a rider and a man, because in recent years things had not gone well. The two years with Ducati were very difficult. Last year was a lot better but not enough for me to give everything I could, so I made some tough choices. They were bold, even risky, but now it’s a huge satisfaction to be here after many podiums and a couple of victories. It makes me feel even more motivated and I’ve had a lot of fun, knowing that I’ve been competitive enough to win two races and have fought for the victory at almost every race with Lorenzo or Marquez, which was my target.” Q: Which was the happiest moment throughout the season? VR: “The best moment was the victory at Misano in front of all my fans. I managed to get back to first place in the Italian Grand Prix after five years and it was great. I loved that race. I really enjoyed myself and I felt really good emotions. However, I actually enjoyed the second victory more because at Misano I was a little too excited. In Phillip Island I was able to appreciate the win even more. I really enjoyed it!” Q: We know that you have prepared well physically and mentally after suffering the last three years. How were you able to make such a strong comeback? VR: “I think the secret is to understand that you still want to be part of the game. To do so, you have to forget all the victories you've managed to get in the previous years and have a great humility. You also need to realise that, if you want to go on, you have to work hard. If you dwell too much on your past successes and say “well, I have won nine world titles and more than 100 races”, you’d rather stay home. The sport, your rivals, the tyres, your motorcycle, everything changes so instead you need to work more to be stronger. If you don’t, you’re finished.” Q: In the second half of the season you have sent a clear message to your main rivals. How can you put more pressure on them and how can Yamaha help you to try to reach the tenth world title? VR: “I still believe in it, as I always said. After this year even more because we are there at the front. We are really close to our rivals, but it will be difficult. Lorenzo will be stronger next year and Marquez won the world title by winning 13 races against my two. This means he won 11 more than me. The difference is huge. To fill this gap we have to work even better with the team, with Silvano, and also work hard with Yamaha to give us a hand. I think this year, especially at the beginning, Honda was much more competitive than our bike and the first half of the season was too easy for Marc. If we want to make life difficult for him, it’s necessary to be closer to him.”
