There’s a huge lesson for race promoters here: fans are ready for something different. And if you want your championship to survive and thrive you need to give fans what they want.

    ....

And don’t tell me that it’s impossible to race a naked Kawasaki Z1000R, a KTM Super Duke or a BMW R1250GS. Anyone can race anything, as proven by the baggers and Asia’s underbone championships.

    ....

I rarely watch World Superbikes because I spend a lot of time covering MotoGP, so when I have a weekend off I want to think about something other than motorbike racing. Also, why watch WSB when it’s pretty much like watching MotoGP, because modern superbikes are essentially street-legal MotoGP bikes, so they look pretty much the same, sound pretty much the same and go around racetracks pretty much the same?

    ....

My new WSB classes would run under superstock-type rules – a lowish purchase price cost cap, limited modifications and so on. And the headline classes would change every few years, to keep fans interested and to discourage manufacturers from investing too much money in transforming their production nakeds and adventure bikes into full-on racers.

  3. Am aproape 9k km cu 1290sar model 2022. Vin de pe Tiger 800 2018 pe care am facut ~100.000km.

    https://www.motogp.com/en/news/2023/08/22/lcr-honda-castrol-confirm-zarco-signature-for-2024/476458

LCR Honda Castrol is proud to announce the signing of Johann Zarco. The two-time Moto2™ World Champion French rider will join the team in 2024 on a two-year contract.

    https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1033760/1/theory-touted-ktm-want-marc-marquez-mv-agusta

KTM has a 25% stake in MV Agusta and so, if they were to acquire extra grid slots, might choose to rebrand some RC16s in the same way that Tech3 races with GASGAS colours.

However, since the bikes would still presumably be full RC16s, it would not solve KTM’s current sticking point with Dorna, which is reserving the ex-Suzuki grid slots for a ‘new manufacturer’.

"Do you know what KTM's dream is? Do you know what marketing exercise KTM really wants to do in the future? Having Marc Marquez on an MV Agusta," explains journalist Ricard Jove.

"That's the play they'd like and it can be.

"What remains to be seen is to what extent the championship can allow KTM to be painted [as an] MV Agusta or to make a bike significantly different from the KTM.

“But that is the objective and I think it is a very good marketing exercise if it is achieved.

    https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1033704/1/johann-zarco-explains-lcr-move-honda-has-power-come-back

“I had to think for a few weeks about it,” Zarco told MotoGP.com. “[Despite] doing these good results for three years with the Pramac team, it has been tough to sign again now.

“There are many competitive Ducatis, many young guys, so it seems it was tough to have another signature and even it was not sure if we were going to be with Pramac or another team in Ducati.

“So the offer and discussion with Honda and Cecchinello was pretty interesting. I get the opportunity to have a project for two years, at 33 years old. It’s quite good to project yourself and, as a sportsman, do the best you can.

    ...

“I don't have the same character as Alex Rins and with the different experiences from Yamaha, KTM, the Honda for three races, I even tried the Suzuki seven years ago. And now I’ve got four years on the Ducati. So I try to adapt myself to many situations,” Zarco said.

“Alex won the race in Austin. That was incredible. But then he has been struggling and he got also the injury so has been a tough time for him.

“I don't know how things inside [HRC] was for him, but it's a challenge I take and I think with the experience I have, I'm ready to control the situation as well as possible.”

Zarco also insists he is much better prepared for the challenge ahead than when he made the short-lived switch to KTM.

“It's going to be different because my life is different now. I grew up as a sportsman, and I can see the situation with one step back. When I jumped from the Yamaha to the KTM, I wanted to win races at any cost, so that's why I've been feeling very bad when I was really back of the classification. That's why I said to KTM, ‘better to stop than pay me for nothing’.

“Now it's another mentality. And as I say, I take it as a project, that is pretty good, Because saving these two years in MotoGP is the best place to be, and is also the place I want to be because I'm very competitive.

“So that's why I want to live well this challenge and I will live it better than I did in KTM because I'm just more mature. So I know that in case of problems, I will handle myself much better than in the past.”

    https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1033700/1/bezzecchi-i-have-already-made-my-decision-soon-i-will-communicate-it

Speaking about his future after securing P3 in Austria, Bezzecchi said: “Vale is pushing a lot to be honest and I really appreciate this. To be pushed but the goat is something no one in the world can say this.

“I have already made my decision but I cannot tell you what I will do. Soon I will communicate it but it was fantastic to have this celebration [post-race] with Pecco and the VR46 riders.”

When asked about Rossi pushing him and what he meant by that, Bezzecchi added: "I think Vale is pushing more to have me in the team.

"We have spoken a lot and seen each other many times at home. He is pushing me a lot to stay and I’m happy for this."

Fernandez and teammate Miguel Oliveira are both contracted for 2024 already but the report suggests that Aprilia may lose faith with the Spaniard whose season is going “differently than expected”.

Intriguingly the report cites “what we heard at Silverstone” - that Fernandez himself is “dissatisfied with the experience gained to date in MotoGP” and wants “something different”.

That would be a Moto2 return, rather than a WorldSBK move.

Fernandez was the 2021 Moto2 runner-up when he reluctantly stepped into the premier class with the KTM satellite team, despite preferring RNF (then Yamaha’s satellite team).

    s-a clarificat si situatia plangaciosului:

    https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1033143/1/rnf-raul-fernandez-has-2-2-aprilia-contract

“We had a meeting with Aprilia last week,” team boss Razlan Razali told the RNF Unlocked Podcast on the eve of the British MotoGP weekend.

“No doubt, [Raul] probably hears stories about people coming to approach us and, yes, there’s been a number of riders who came to talk to us.

“So number one, we confirmed at the meeting with Aprilia that [Raul] needs more time. So he shouldn’t worry.

“That is something that we have communicated to Raul as well: ‘Don’t worry, because you have a contract with Aprilia for at least two years, with an option for another two years’.

“So that should not distract him, just focus on the job and don’t pressure himself."

“Raul is only in his second year,” Razali added. “He had a terrible first year with KTM. In theory with a young rider you need a minimum of two years [in the same team] to give them a chance. To just get rid of them after one year is not correct."

“Okay, it happened to us with Darryn [Binder], but that was an exceptional circumstance because he had signed with Yamaha and we then switched to Aprilia.”

“Raul’s very ambitious,” added team manager Wilco Zeelenberg. “He has the speed but he needs the whole package, to also stay calm if you are not in the position you want to be in. See what the others are doing and not make mistakes.”

    https://www.motogp.com/en/news/2023/08/09/hes-a-great-talent-is-morbidelli-destined-for-ducati/475384

The contracts of numerous riders within Ducati’s ranks come to a conclusion at the end of the season and still need to be renewed, while there is also a desire to promote Bezzecchi to a factory bike, with Ciabatti confirming as much.

"At the moment it is no secret that we would like to be able to give Marco Bezzecchi a factory bike, he is having a very good year, winning races. We have to clarify our ideas in order to be able to give him a factory bike next year.

"The decision will not be made between this weekend (at Silverstone), but we will clarify the ideas with the team and the rider to make a decision after Austria."

In order to give Bez one of the four factory machines, it would require the #72 to move up to either Ducati Lenovo Team or Prima Pramac Racing. Francesco Bagnaia is locked into a factory team contract for 2024, while Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) both have 1+1 deals for 2023, with the factory yet to officially exercise their 2024 extensions. However, of all the riders, it seems that Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) is most at risk, with the Frenchman's deal up at the end of the year and rising chatter of a potential switch to LCR Honda, though the #5 has stated his desire to remain on a Ducati. No matter what way you look at it, some tough decisions await the Bologna bullets, as five riders onto four factory bikes simply doesn't go.

It initially appeared that he was unfortunate at Silverstone to be wiped out of the race bu Bastianini, but now the Italian has offered a different view.

“Marc touched me in Turn 11, on entry,” Bastianini said.

“On Turn 15, I tried to brake but it was impossible to stop the bike so I went straight on.”

Marquez was out of the race immediately, Bastianini tried to continue for a while but also came to a premature end.

After the contact with Marc, something happened on the bike,” he explained. “Also, the tyre was broken.

Probably, because of this I crashed.”

“Bastianini overtook me, and I said, ‘OK’, because today I didn't want to risk more with the rain. But when we arrived at that turn I saw that it was a bit more wet, and I started to slide a bit.

“So I said, ‘OK, I go to the left side, to save the crash or the contact’. But then also on that moment, Bastianini had a small moment and go also to the left, and then I didn't have time to avoid the situation.

“I think I had a small contact with him. We crashed, but it was the kind of crash that I don't lose confidence.”
